Question by : Question about car insurance in USA?
I am from Australia, and Im curious about how your insurance system works.

Im our case, when our car comes due for registration, we need to get a roadworthy slip, and a green slip, which is compulsary insurance. It is a public liability insurance, and also covers the injured party in the other vehicle if you should have a crash. You have to have these items.

You need to buy both of these before you can register your car. You take those items to the RTA (Governing body) and register your car and anyone can drive your car legally provided they are licenced.

From there, we can choose to insure our cars. You can select Third Party, which will cover the other persons car or the item which you hit (house etc) but not your car, and your not covered in the event of theft or any damages to your car.

Or you can choose to have full comprehensive insurance. This will cover your car, and the other vehicle. It also covers you if your car is stolen or damaged.

How does it work in USA
That is insane! I was curious as a lot of people say they were driving without insurance and they have been involved in a crash. Gee, Im glad the system makes more sence in Aus! I was against Compulsary Third Party when it came out, but it really makes sence that the people in the not at fault car should be covered. I wouldnt drive my car without comprehensive insurance, its too much of a risk, and it would be my luck it hit a Rolls Royce.

You’re going to laugh.

Here in the USA, each state says how it works in each state. Well, we don’t have 50 different ways, it’s closer to 30 different ways.

Some states, you need the insurance in place to register. Some, you just sign a piece of paper saying you have insurance (no proof required). Two, don’t require insurance. Several will allow a bond to be posted instead of insurance.

Sorry, it’s a bit of a mess over here, as far as insurance goes. There’s no federal oversight or regulation – it’s all done on a state by state basis.

Paul Schofield, Head of Personal Finance at uSwitch.com comments: “The main issue surrounding payment protection insurance is that it is an expensive product which can often send a market-leading loan tumbling to the bottom of the rate table. There is an enormous disparity between the PPI offered by different lenders, charges are presented in an ambiguous way and customers often feel under pressure to purchase PPI direct from their loan provider without realising the alternatives.

Question by mamas_boy_99: I need a new car, but what kind should I get?
I have a 1990 Camaro that just too a crap on me and I’m looking to buy a new/used car. But what kind should I get?
I need something that’s not a van or a pick up. I want something somewhat fuel effective, but that’s not a top priority. Something sporty with, perhaps, a bit of power, if I can get it. Something that’s reliable. Something that’s CHEAP-esque on insurance (I’m 22 with 2 points on my driving record). Something rather cheap. I have about $ 500 bucks I can spend on the payment, a month, but that’s including insurance.
What kind should I get? Any suggestions?

Best answer:

Answer by Zac
A 1991-1992 Caprice – V8, RWD, automatic. Amazing cars. Really sleek looking with some SS rims. Or you could get an El Camino (yes I’m being serious). Half car, half truck. V6, RWD, manual 4 speed – great car…truck things. Or you could blend in like 90% of the other American and get laughed at in a Toyota, or a Ford Fiesta ‘er something. But I’d stick to the classic or a sports car (Pontiac Fiero with a body kit from Andy’s Auto Sport would be sweet too). But if you REALLY want an exotic car. Buy a Fiat X19 or a Fiat Spider. I4, manual, RWD – Italian sports cars built, design and assembled by Ferarri. And they’re only $ 800-$ 4,000 =) A 90′s Malibu is exceptionable. With he midnight cruiser body kit on it. Whatever ya’ get – don’t lower it, put a “Phat Ass” bass system and Lamborghini doors on it.

Question by : Can I get in my dad’s insurance car Help!!!?
Well my dad is going out of state for 1 month and he is going to leave his car. I am hopefully getting my license 3 days after he leaves. I want to know if it is possible that he can put me in his insurance while being out of state, if he can get me in his insurance before he leaves without me having my license yet or he can sign a paper saying that I can be in his insurance as soon as I get my license?

Thank You =]

Best answer:

Answer by David
Dad could call or write his insurance agentcompany to let them know that you’ll be getting your license, and to add you when you do. Then, when you do, just call the agent/company, give them the new license #, and start driving–carefully and safely, of course.
